A Metal Breath (sometimes translated as “Metal Brace”) is a powerful device created by Deus Machina that holds the power to capture and control Metal Cardbots. A select few humans such as Jun Grant can wear them on their wrists to summon and command Cardbots during battles.

There are multiple Metal Breaths in existence, though the reason for this is unknown.

Functionality

The Metal Breath can only be used by an individual that it recognizes; other Humans find it much too heavy to lift1, and Metal Cardbots are explicitly blocked from using its powers (though Buster Gallon implies this limitation can be worked around with enough research2). The chosen individual is then implied to become the ruler of all Metal Cardbots,3 though how this is resolved with multiple Metal Breaths is unknown.

Story

⚠️
This section contains spoilers.

In Metal Cardbot (season) (Jun’s Metal Breath)

Blue Cop was originally tasked by Deus Machina to use the Metal Breath to “find a friend” before the events of Season 1.4 Jun’s ability to wield the Metal Breath is proof of Deus Machina’s approval.5 Later, it is shown in S1E26, The Final Battle that Jun’s Metal Breath holds the power to transform Blue Cop into Ultimate Blue Cop by combining the powers of all other captured Cardbots.

In Metal Cardbot S (Mukara’s Metal Breath)

In Metal Cardbot S, Gigantrex gives Mukara a different Metal Breath as a token of friendship between humans and Metal Cardbots.6 It holds a similar ultimate power that transforms Blue Cop S into Blue Cop Trinity.

Jun is able to wield both Metal Breaths. Peruru is also shown to be able to use it, including the battle against Flame Nova.

In Metal Cardbot W

Metal Cardbot W introduces at least two new Metal Breaths, though one may be a transformation of Jun’s existing Metal Breath. The other one is wielded by Soleil. Both feature animal motifs.

In toy form, the Metal Breath functions as a device that can scan the Metal Cards included in Metal Cardbot toys. The Cards feature NFC tags that can be read by the Metal Breath when inserted into its slot, playing voice lines associated with the corresponding Cardbot.

Metal Cards are region-free, but they are not compatible across seasons. For example, a Season 2 Cardbot’s Metal Card is not compatible with the first season‘s Metal Breath, but a Chinese toy works on a Korean Metal Breath.7

Footnotes

  1. Edo: “Agh, no! I really can’t lift it! It really won’t come off at all!”

Teo: “I’ll give it a go, then… I can’t move it at all, not an inch!”

Jun: “Nah, you’re just kidding! See?”

  2. Buster Gallon: “That object is nothing more than a system constructed by Deus Machina, the mother computer. Even if it’s locked so that Metal Cardbots can’t use it, there is a way if you put in the time.”

  3. Blue Cop: “The Metal Breath can only be possessed by the chosen one. The one who holds the Metal Breath will become the king, the ruler, of all Metal Cardbots.”

  4. Blue Cop: “Deus Machina told me, right before Machina planet collapsed, to use the Metal Breath, to find a friend.”

  5. Blue Cop: “So… I have given the Metal Breath from Deus Machina to Jun.

Buffalo Crush: “Qualified? What do you mean, huh?!

Blue Cop: The fact that Jun has the Metal Breath… is the proof.”

  6. Crest: “Peruru, about that Metal Breath you gave to Jun… You said it was passed down from generation to generation, right?”

Jun: “Do you know anything about it? Like, a hidden legend of this bracelet or something?”

Peruru: “Sorry, I got nothing… besides that Mukara received it from Gigantrex 4,000 years ago as a token of friendship.”

Gigantrex: “The treasure of Deus Machina was, in essence, my entrustment to Mukara.”
